WHY STEM?

“Education at all levels in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—STEM—develops, preserves, and disseminates knowledge and skills that convey personal, economic, and social benefits. Higher education provides the advanced work skills needed in an increasingly knowledge-intensive, innovation-focused economy and society.” -National Science Foundation

WHAT IS STEM?

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) refers to fields of study considered core technological underpinnings of an advanced society. STEM is challenge based, hands-on, practical education which aims to foster inquisitive minds, logical reasoning and collaboration skills.

WHY STEM?

The science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields are collectively considered the keystones of an advanced society. A robust STEM education creates critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and next generation innovators.

Today, the number of STEM jobs are growing faster than the number of STEM graduates. According to the National Science Foundation, 80% of the jobs created in the next decade will require some form of math and science skills. Despite having the top quality talent, the exam-focused education model of the past has limited these students when it comes to innovation, problem-solving and creativity. This is where the STEM players come in to fill this gap.*

Research shows that children develop interest in STEM fields at an average age of eight. This is due to the fact that technology, gadgets and gizmos fascinate them. But, the leap from being a user of technology to an innovator rarely happens and, if at all, it is a very slow transition.

STEM cultivates a stimulating learning environment that infuses inquiry and inspires critical out-of- the-box thinking paving way for schools to proudly produce astute business and social leaders and responsible world citizens.

STEM graduates have better job prospects than other students. STEM jobs are projected to grow 13% between 2017-2027 in the U.S. STEM occupations have wages above national average in first world countries.*

STEM Center of Excellence (STEMCOE) provides students with an experiential education that excites, engages, and enriches through a hands-on, learn-by-doing approach. STEMCOE’s inspires the next generation of STEM leaders by developing a passion for STEM careers at a young age and maintaining interest throughout middle and high school.
